Dave & Matt Vans

Affordable Promaster camper vans
Dave & Matt Vans make vanlife accessible and affordable with their hightop RAM Promaster build.

About the build

Dave & Matt's hightop Promaster builds are insulated with spray foam, are paneled in pine, and floored with waterproof laminate flooring. The front seats are on swivels.

In the kitchen a powered sink with extendable spray faucet and 12v fridge are provided. Cabinets provide ample storage. The queen-sized memory foam platform bed is removable.

For power, a 200ah AGM deep cycle battery gets charged from the vehicle via the isolator and a 160 Watt solar panel. The windows on the sliders include screens. LED lighting on dimmers illuminate the cabin. There are 4 USB ports. A MaxxFan vents the interior.

A plethora of options are available including a bench box providing storage for a cassette toilet, a Lagun swivel table, extra cabinetry, removable rear seats, electrical upgrades, under-bed bike fork mounts, trailer hitch, and more.

  • My take

This is an affordable option for anyone looking for a full-time van with a tried and tested layout. This build is similar to the Wayfarer layout, with more polished touches. Compared to that van, this one is for someone who is looking to step up to features like lighting, a functional kitchen (sans built-in stove), closed storage, and the warmer feeling of wood paneling. For families, the option of rear seating is nice, though the van would only sleep 2. You could perhaps put a roof-top tent on a rack above, however. This certainly looks like something I would consider for full-time van living.
