Vocabulary lesson plans should include activities where students see the word in contextually rich sentences and in student-friendly definitions. Word study needs to be intentionally and explicitly taught and students need to be exposed to all the facets of a word.

Play to learn: Word Videos is an interactive study tool that students can use to review words for a test, or to retain previously learned words. More...Less

When students open Word Videos, they customize the attributes they want displayed in the word videos. For example, they can choose to see the word in a sentence, its definition, the word spelled out by letter sounds, its syllables, or the word’s synonyms, an image, or its part of speech. Once students have chosen the attributes they want, they study their words as they watch the videos.

Teaching Tip: In Word Videos, students choose from a variety of options to create their own word video for their spelling and vocabulary words. This is a great way to allow to students to have some choice in the way they want to learn their words. When there is choice, students are more motivated to study.
