VocabularySpellingCity.com earns prestigious industry recognition

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (May 3, 2018) VocabularySpellingCity, a game-based program that builds K-12 vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, today announced that VocabularySpellingCity was named a 2018 SIIA CODiE Award finalist in the Game-Based Curriculum Solution category. Finalists represent applications, products and services from developers of educational software, digital content, online learning services and related technologies across the PreK-20 sector.

VocabularySpellingCity empowers students to study independently through engaging game-based learning activities, while giving teachers the tools to develop students’ literacy skills and implement best practices for effective vocabulary instruction. Recent research found that students practicing with the game-based literacy program for 10 minutes a day boosted vocabulary retention scores by 43% and reading comprehension by 21.5% in native English speakers and 46.5% in ELL students.

“We’re thrilled that the CODiE Awards have recognized VocabularySpellingCity as a finalist in the best game-based curriculum solution category for the third year in a row,” said John Edelson, CEO of VocabularySpellingCity, WritingCity, and Science4Us. “VocabularySpellingCity was initially created to save teachers time by automating spelling tests, while improving students’ spelling skills with a variety of activities. Nearly a decade later, VocabularySpellingCity has expanded to include study tools for helping teachers implement best practices for vocabulary instruction. Research shows time and time again the strong link between vocabulary and reading fluency and comprehension, so we provide engaging vocabulary activities to set students on a path to reading success.”

The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier awards for the software and information industries and have been recognizing product excellence for over 30 years.
