In kindergarten, children may already be familiar with some common collective nouns, such as class and family. They can use those common nouns to orally construct sentences based on their own experiences. Leaning on this prior knowledge, teaching collect noun practice lists can be fun and engaging with our collective noun games and activities supplementing!

Students will be introduced to many new nouns, including collective nouns, in each grade. Students at every grade level can have fun learning collective nouns for groups of animals (flock of birds, swarm of bees, herd of antelope).

Spelling practice for collective nouns, such as family, class, group, and team, can begin early in Grade 2. Word study of collective nouns should include constructing sentences that include collective nouns in both singular and plural form as well as time to play with words thanks to VocabularySpellingCity’s collective noun games.
